Our Getaway Weekend

We know we are rather unusual.  We are actually very comfortable with that.  Not many actively choose to live in the middle nowhere of an almost wilderness, having as little contact with the outside world as possible.  Most people just head to places like we live for a Get Away Weekend.  Not us.  We love living in the sticks a very rural area.  Okay, so maybe that makes us weird instead of unususal.  We are actually quite comfortable with that too.

So what else would a couple of weirdos do for their 40th Wedding Anniversary but go spend it with 3 GrandGirlies and 1 Very Pregnant Daughter?  In a congested urban area.  Go figure.  But we had wonderful weekend!

M took Friday off so we could have a 3 day weekend...believe me that in itself is romance.  We had a beautiful drive up there Friday morning and that afternoon we headed for an orchard.  The Girlies picked their own apples, gathering them in their skirts and then strolled through the pumpkin field patch searching for the perfect pumpkins.  In between running over to the goat pasture to talk to the goats through the fence that is.  When you are a little Girlie in love with all things that have 4 legs, what's a perfect pumpkin compared to a pasture full of goats?  It was a lovely day and I can only tell you about it because the camera chose to stay at home.  Bad camera!

Saturday, the actual anniversary day we let the Girlies choose what we would do for the day.  Their choice was to decorate their house and yard for Halloween.  FUN!  I love to decorate for the holidays and be with my Girls.  Papa loved having a day to relax; not having to go or be anywhere.  Just being able to relax while watching and occasionally holding his Girlies.

Everything is always fun when it involves 3 little Girlies and 2 doting grandparents.  So after a quick trip to a couple of junk dollar stores we went to work.....

stringing cobwebs.....

stuffing and hanging garbage bag ghosts...

more stringing cobwebs.....

making jack-o-lantern faces with black tape.....

while munching on our apples from the orchard.....

with at least one of us unwillingly getting our faces wiped after munchies.....

even more stringing of cobwebs.....

cutting and hanging silouhettes of spooky stuff in the windows....

finding good spots for a few spooky critters.....

some not quite so spooky.....

some that were down right creepy.....

while of course more stringing of cobwebs.....

being a wee bit goulish.....

maybe a lot goulish.....

This was not my idea!

The Boss

The Perfectionist

The Baby (for a bit longer)

and last but not least tweaking the cobweb just a wee bit more.

I'm afraid this one may have inherited
just a wee bit of her Meme's OCD perfectionism.

Later on that evening Rae and the Girlies took us out to eat at an awesome Mexican Restaraunt.  The camera again decided to stay home.  It was a wonderful evening with fabulous food.

We missed our sons though.  Nate was in north Alabama...working.  Poor thing.  J stayed home.  Of course.  It is almost impossible to get him to leave the Hill for more than a few hours.  Can't leave his critters!

What a great Getaway Weekend!

  1. What a great time. I can't wait till our grand kids are old enough to do that stuff. I got a big kick out of the pics of the girls playing dead;trying to keep a straight face. Rachel's time is drawing near. Can't wait to hear the news. Stacey has 9 weeks to go. We are anxiously waiting on that news, too.

Wishing you both a very Happy 40th Anniv. Miss you all.
    Love,
    Chris
